The Blog Has Moved!

For those of you out there following the project 365/blog, I have news... and I should have told you a while back, the blog has moved! The new location is pretty easy - http://blog.bokehphotographer.com.

I know! It has been a week, and this is waaaaay late news, please forgive me! Way back when I was posting to both locations - and that just wasn't working out too well! As it turns out, the other location works much better for getting the word out! So I hope you can follow over at the new location! Check it out, the feel is a little different than this one here...

the scarring party cd release 08/13/10

About a month or so ago I wrote about a local Milwaukee band - The Scarring Party - and their 'end timey' sounding music. It was the first time I had heard the band perform, and I thought they were great! You can get their music on iTunes, or at least get a sampling of their sound there.

Since then I have been sampling more and more of their music myself. I had the opportunity to photograph their CD release August 2010, Friday the 13th. They shared the stage with Celebrated Working Man and Trusty Knife. All the shows were great, set to a perfect venue. The interior of Turner Hall was something in itself. The whole evening just felt like a great way for The Scarring Party to kick off the sale of their new album, Losing Teeth.

the scarring party

The other night I went out on the town! Well, I had a plan in mind - and I really only went to one place - so I wouldn't say it was necessarily a big outing. The goal of the evening was to photograph a Milwaukee band, a quartet called 'The Scarring Party'. Aside from a little bit of band photography, I can tell you this - I was introduced to a new style of music by the Milwaukee quartet. Not having heard the music previously, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect - and I personally couldn't explain it to someone else, but I could tell them that I liked it! And from the crowd they had at Lulu Cafe, it is safe to say that the people there definitely were enjoying The Scarring Party.

The venue itself didn't really lend itself to the most desirable lighting scenario for photography. Thankfully the band brought along their own lights to give the stage a little more pop. Even thought the lighting was a little harsh, it gave the show a little bit of edge and (in my opinion) added the the vaudevillian feel of the show. If you are looking for something with a bit more of a unique feel, be sure to check out this group. All four do a bang up job, and definitely entertain!

anna and andrew: will you

There is a funny story behind these pictures. One day I had invested in some new photography equipment, and in my venture to experiment with it I was looking for subject. Cruising around one day I commented to my wife that I would like to get a couple and just go out and take some pictures for fun. That's when I came up with Andrew and Anna!

What is funny is that I wanted to do a form of 'mock engagement' pictures. Of course I told my wife it wasn't because I wanted them to get engaged, but I just wanted to get some test shots. So I gave Andrew a call and just started chatt ing a bit. I commented that I would like to practice with some new equipment and thought maybe he and Anna would like to do some mock engagement pictures. It was at that point that Andrew informed me that, oddly enough, he and Anna had gotten engaged while on a trip to Puerto Rico! (not that them getting engaged was odd, just the reason I was calling...)

So as it turned out, these were to serve as actual engagement shots. It was a blast to get out with Andrew and Anna to do their engagement pictures. We first headed off to an abandoned train track area. Or at least I thought it was. While there we messed around on the trains that were there, just having some good ol' fashioned fun. It was a blast. After that we got some dinner and then headed down to the Milwaukee lakefront around the Historic Third Ward.

Before we knew it the time had gotten to be after 10 pm! At that point we figured we had enough fun for one night. It was a blast getting to shoot their pictures for their engagement. I am looking forward to an awesome wedding for these two!
